Bengaluru: The farmers, who managed to get a good yield of onion are literally in tears as the prices of their produce have crashed.
The onion prices have hit bottom in the state. Karnataka is the second largest onion growing state in India. The farmers are in distress as their yeild has not fetched a good market price.
Farmers are also apprehensive about the large scale dumping of onion from Nasik into Karnataka market.
Heavy rains have also caused a lot of trouble to these crops. Onion is the main crop in Shivani hobli and all the farmers here are facing trouble.
The farmers complained that the government is not helping them much. They claimed that they had cultivated the crop by availing of loans and mortgaging gold.
