#MeToo: Sushma ducks question on M J Akbar

New Delhi: As the #MeToo movement is gathering momentum in the country,  woman journalists have accused Minister of State for External Affairs M J Akbar of sexual harassment.

Journalist Priya Ramani, on Monday, in a tweet affirmed Akbar as the unnamed editor whose inappropriate behaviour with her she had written about in an article last year. Following her allegations, more woman journalists tweeted their harrowing experiences with the former journalist.

A BJP member in the Rajya Sabha, Akbar has been the editor of prominent newspapers like The Telegraph, Asian Age and The Sunday Guardian.

Asked for a comment on the issue, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj chose not to respond to the issue.

Swaraj evaded questions posed by journalists asking whether an internal probe will be initiated to verify the allegations levelled against the minister.

The ministry of external affairs is also yet to issue a statement on the allegations.
