MAHE car parking facility opens

Manipal: The multi-level Car Parking facility of Manipal Academy of Higher Education was opened on Tuesday. The 2,50,000 square feet structure, comprising ground plus three floors, has provision to accommodate 774 four-wheelers and 400 two-wheelers. That includes parking on the terrace as well.

The building will be powered by solar energy,” said Captain (I.N) M.C. Belliappa, Director of Projects, MAHE. “The solar panels form roofing for the terrace, and, as such the cars parked there will also be in shade. The solar panels can generate 540 KW of electricity which will be used for other facilities of the University as well,” he added.

Giving other details of the facility, Capt Belliappa said, “It has taken exactly two years for completion, with work having been started in September 2016. The total cost for construction is rupees 25 crores. Traffic management and operation by M/s Central Parking System, Bengaluru. There are separate ramps for incoming and outgoing traffic. Provision for E-vehicle car charging has also been made. Three lifts and five staircases will facilitate the movements of vehicles and people”.

“It will be a pay and park facility open to the general public visiting MAHE and Kasturba Hospital,” said Col Prakash Chandra, Director, General Services, MAHE. Parking for two-wheelers and MAHE staff will be on the ground floor and for four-wheelers on the other floors.
