Moodbidri: The Principal District and Sessions court on Wednesday convicted a 41-year-old man for murdering his octogenarian father and the attempted murder of his brother at Kairangala near Moobidri here.
The convicted Dolphy Goveas had hacked to death his 83-year-old father, Paul Goveas on April 14, 2017, when his brother Stany Goveas, 54, had gone to church. Later, when Stany returned home, Dolphy launched a murderous assault on him and fled the spot.
Upholding the arguments put forth by Prosecutor Pushparaj Adyantaya, Judge Kadloor Sathyanaraya Acharya held Dolphy guilty of the murder. The quantum of his punishment will be pronounced today (October 11).
Reportedly Paul and Stany suspected Dolphy of having murdered his mother, in 2015 over some land dispute and later hanging her body to make it appear like a suicide.
According to the charge sheet filed by the Moodbidri police, Dolphy was reportedly unhappy with the allegations made by his father and brother.
A total of 36 witnesses were examined during the hearing.
