Ullal: Dakshina Kannada (DK) DC Sasikanth Senthil has promised to ensure new houses are constructed for the sea erosion victims in Ullal within six months. The houses will be constructed in G+3 model with two bedrooms.
Mr Senthil was speaking after visiting the sea erosion-affected areas in Hileriyanagara, Ucchila, on Saturday October 13th.
“The list of victims has been prepared. It has been proposed to construct houses at Kannur or at Ombathukere for the sea erosion victims. The keys of the houses will be handed over to the beneficiaries before June,” said the DC.
Mr Senthil called upon the victims to have patience and urged them not to go near the affected areas. “The work on inshore berms is in progress, as a part of the Karnataka Coastal Protection and Management Investment Programme, to check sea erosion,” he informed.
“There is a need to take up rehabilitation work immediately. The sea erosion continued for four days in Ullal. The strong waves have continued to hit the houses in the region,” said a local resident stating that the residents are facing inconvenience due to the sea erosion.
JD(S) state secretary B M Farooq led a delegation of JDS leaders from Mangaluru constituency who met Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda and impressed upon the need to check sea erosion.
