Smart ‘Central Market’ approved

Mangaluru: The proposal to construct a new Central Market near Sate Bank at the cost of Rs 145 crore under the Smart City Plan, received approval at the Smart City SPV meeting that was conducted at Bengaluru on Wednesday. The tender process will be conducted within a month followed by the work.

The Smart City meeting was presided by the district in-charge secretary and Mangaluru Smart City Company president Ponnuraj. KUIDB president A B Ibrahim, DK DC Shashikant Senthil, Mayor Bhaskar K, M Shashidhar Hegde, members Lancelot Pinto. Premanand Shetty and Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer participated in the meeting.

District in-charge minister U T Khader’s suggestion to set reserve a grant to develop the abattoir in Mangaluru has received confirmation during the meeting. Permission has been given for the project cost estimation, technical consent and other works related to the development of the abattoir in the future. It has been advised during the meeting that before establishing the project, permission should be taken through a meeting at Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), post which the project may be started. It has also been decided at the meeting that other than the projects that have already been decided upon, it is important that any future projects must get the approval in MCC.

Under the smart road plan, a study to identify the roads that can be developed within State Bank limits has been recommended. It has also been recommended that the construction of new bus stand at Pumpwell and BangraKulur needs to gain pace.
