Kundapur: The members of the Tipper Owners’ Association have started an indefinite strike against the district administration for failing to realize its promise on allowing sand mining, excluding the coastal regulation zone (CRZ) from October 16th.

On Thursday, October 18th, the protesters parked their tippers on Hemmady national highway here in protest.

President of the association, Me Gunakar Shetty addressed the protestors and said that since the district administration has completely banned the mining of sand, it should implement sand policy and restart mining.

“More than 1,500 tipper and mini tipper owners depend upon sand mining and other construction works. Tipper owners should not be made victims for fault of others. Several daily wage workers and construction laborers also are jobless for the last three years,” he observed.

Warning the district administration of a massive protest he said, “The district administration has banned sand mining without finding alternate means for the tipper owners. The district administration must immediately start sand mining failing which we will hold massive protest in front of DC’s office.”

“We are holding indefinite protest in Karkala, Katapady and Kundapura simultaneously,” he added.
