Bengaluru: An unidentified youth committed suicide by hanging himself from an iron railing inside St. Luke’s church on Pampa Mahakavi Road in V.V. Puram here on Thursday night.

The police, after visiting the crime scene, concluded that the youth, said to be in his 20’s may have failed at two suicide attempts here before he finally hung himself from the iron railing using his own t-shirt. The youth it is believed initially tried to hang himself with a makeshift rope, made out of a mat but unable to withstand his weight the rope gave away. Later, the youth tried to slit his throat using broken pieces of glass from a window and even tried stabbing himself.

While no suicide note was found near him, a name scribbled in blood suggested that he may have committed suicide over a love affair.

The incident came to light at around 9.30 pm when one of the church members saw the youth’s body in a room on the second floor of the building.

The security guard on duty told police that the youth may have entered the church premises by climbing a tree from Old Fort school side and accessed the terrace of the building inside the church.

According to police, the youth was familiar with the church’s structure and directly went to the second floor as the members of the church were holding a meeting on the ground floor.

The church authorities informed the police, who rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Victoria hospital for post-mortem.
