Udupi: A man chose to commit suicide after distributing his death note to people in the locality. The incident took place at Bhramavar in Udupi district recently. Apparently, the victim was upset with the alleged betrayal by relatives.
The deceased is identified as Ratnakar Nayari alias Vasanth Nayari (62), a resident of Chantaru in Bhramavar.
The complaint
As per the police complaint filed by Ratnakar’s wife, Veena R Nayari on October 20th, Ratnakar was supposed to inherit 23 cents of land from his father. However, his relatives Shalini Nayari, Bharath C K Nayari and Shashikanth Nayari, the first, second and third accused respectively, allegedly usurped the property by obtaining the victim’s signatures on a blank paper.
The Act
On realizing he was duper, Ratnakar fought for his share with the three relatives. However, they denied him the property and told him to commit suicide. Ratnakar took the suggestion literally and on the morning of October 19th, consumed poison in the compound of Shashikanth Nayari. Though Ratnakar was rushed to the hospital, he lost his life.
Death note
Prior to consuming poison, Ratnakar had distributed copies of his death note to several people in the locality. In the death note he penned, Ratnakar holds the three accused responsible for his death.
Brahmavar police have registered a case under IPC Sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
