  • Shiradi Ghat, a nightmare

Belthnagady:  Vehicles passing along Charmadi Ghat had to face a lot of inconvenience after a truck carrying vegetables fell across the road at the tenth bend on Charmadi Ghat on Sunday October 21st. For some time, traffic moved on the narrow gap by the side of the fallen truck.

However a crane was summoned to lift the fallen truck which only created a major block that lasted for three hours. Vehicles including buses were lined for over a distance of 10 kms on either sides of the road. Vehicular movement was finally restored to normal at 10am on Sunday.

Shiradi Ghat

Passing through Shiradi Ghat is no less than a nightmare. Vehicular movement along the NH 75 section of the Shiradi Ghat was seriously affected with the inflow of a large number of pilgrims visiting Dharmasthala and Subramanya during the holidays. The narrow highway near Donigal, traffic jam occurred often on Sunday.

The people trapped in the horrendous jams were heard criticizing the department for not undertaking highway repair work after banning and regulating traffic flow. However, the bottlenecks in traffic have made roadside shopkeepers happy as they have begun to get brisk business.

Persisting problems

The ghat road is plagued with huge potholes which create a lot of problem. Due to the potholes, last week, three trucks lost their balance and fell across the road. Additionally, the culverts built on road bends only add to the list of problems faced by vehicles passing through here.
