Subramanya: Traders and members of local organisations called for a bandh on Thursday, October 25 to protest against the attack on Guruprasad Panja, Hindu Jagaran Vedike Sullia taluk secretary by activist Chaitra Kundapur and her associates.
Condemning the assault on the HJV secretary, traders and members of local organisations took out a rally here on Wednesday, October 24 evening.
As per sources, an argument ensued between Chaitra and Guruprasad on Wednesday evening which soon snowballed into a brawl and Guruprasad was assaulted by Chaitra and her associates. The police who arrived at the spot had to resort to mild lathi-charge to disperse the crowd. A profusely bleeding Guruprasad was later taken to a private hospital for treatment.
The Subramanya police registered a case and detained Chaitra and her associates.
It may be recalled that Chaithra had recently participated in the ‘Sudharma Sabhe’ programme held at Subramanya Math and had chastised rituals, including the highly venerated ’Sarpa Samskara’ observed at Kukke Shree Subramanya Temple.
