Udupi: A man who had taken part in the protests in front of Udupi deputy commissioner’s office died due to heart attack on Friday, October 26th. The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Haneef (42), a resident of Hejmady.
Apparently, the deceased died of heart attack allegedly caused by his financial woes. He had borrowed a loan of Rs 6 lakh and bought two country boats. He had also created a deck beside the river to extract sand. As sand mining had completely stopped, it was in much tension. The very tension eventually claimed his life.
Mr Haneef was staying in a rented house with his wife and three children. He was also preparing to get one of his daughters married. He took active part in protests demanding sand mining.
During the protest, Haneef collapsed when he heard from officials that his sand deck was in sensitive area. He experienced chest pain and he was taken to the government hospital. He was later shifted to Manipal KMC hospital for further treatment. He later suffered a massive heart attack which claimed his life.
Reportedly, Haneef was also facing much pressure from his lenders.
