Bengaluru: The Special Investigating Team (SIT) who is currently probing the murder case of activist Gauri Lankesh has been on a search operation for the murder weapon, a country-made pistol.

One of the accused, Sharad Kalaskar claimed that they have destroyed the weapon used for the murder.

“Kalaskar claims that following the arrest of Amol Kale and Amit Degwekar in May 2018, the remaining members decided to destroy the key evidence – the weapon. As all the weapons were with him, he dismantled and disposed four pistols. He is positive that the four included the key murder weapon,” said a senior SIT official.
