Mangaluru: An inspector attached to the Bajpe police station has been booked on charges of assaulting a woman after summoning her for questioning reasons.

The victim Victim Salika, 44, filed an FIR against the inspector, Parashiva Murthy under section 324 and 323 of IPC, for voluntarily causing hurt, at Bajpe police station on Thursday.

Salika had been summoned for questioning since it was gathered that she was in contact with her absconding husband, who is facing charges of rape under the Pocso Act in a case registered in 2017

In her complaint, Salika alleged that inspector Murthy hit her with a plate during the interrogation.

Salika had been summoned on the next day as well but she got herself admitted to a hospital alleging assault by the inspector. Meanwhile, the police are investigating the matter to ascertain the veracity of her allegations.

It may be recalled that members of the Mulki-Moodbidri unit of the SDPI and Women India Movement (WIM) had staged a protest against the alleged atrocity on October 25 and had urged the city police commissioner to book the police officer under Section 354 of the IPC (assault with intent to outrage her modesty).
