PU Colleges demand uniformity in holidays

Mangaluru: The associations of principals of pre-university colleges of Dakshina Kannada district have demand for uniformity in holidays and put forth other demands with S L Bhojegowda, MLC, with whom the association had an educational conversation at the auditorium of SCDCC bank in the city on Saturday November 3.
“It has become difficult to prepare for examinations due to the system of holidays of pre-university colleges. A uniform holiday structure needs to be implemented. Otherwise, the department should be considered as ‘Leaveless Department’ and leave facility has to be provided,” urged the association.
The association observed that it was unscientific to conduct examinations of first PU from January 31 and second PU examinations from March 1. This decision of the education department, will not provide enough time for PU students to prepare for the examinations. Therefore the association pointed out that the PU classes need to begin from June 1st and at least 27 days of holidays must be declared for the month of October.
New pay scale demanded
The association pointed that though it has been protesting since 25 years for the eradication of discrimination in the salary of lecturers and principals of PU colleges, this issue is not resolved.
“Separate pay scale needs to be fixed for principals and lecturers as per the Kumara Nayak Report. The two pay hikes that are declared have to be extended to lecturers who have joined after August 1, 2008, and new pay scale needs to be fixed,” urged the association.
The association also put forth other demands with the MLC including
- Pro-student syllabus need to be followed
- Colleges that are established 15 years and before need to be given permanent recognition
- Physical education teachers have to be recruited for all colleges
- Education timetable to be specified in the model of Kerala state
- Fine should be cancelled during the admission process
- Deputation of lecturers to other colleges should be cancelled
- Refresher workshop needs to be conducted for lecturers
