No processions on Tipu Jayanti: DCM

Bengaluru:  Deputy Chief Minister and home minister Dr G Parameshwar, on Monday, November 5 informed that no processions can be carried out anywhere in the state on November 10, Saturday either in favor or opposed to the Tipu Jayanti celebration.

At a meeting held with senior police officials including DGP Neelamani Raju at the Vidhana Soudha to discuss the preparations for the Tipu Jayanti celebrations, Parameshwar said that any programme connected with Tipu Jayanthi should be held within the auditorium only. He further added that banners or flexes reading slogans for or against Tipu should not be displayed anywhere and if anyone violates law and order on that day severe action will be taken against them.

Parameshwar ordered the police officers to be alert on the day of Tipu Jayanthi as the saffron outfits or BJP might carry out a protest on the occasion.

K P Manjunath, a resident of Haisoldoor in Madikeri filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the high court asking for cancellation of the order sent by the Kannada and Cultural Department of the state government to celebrate the Tipu Jayanthi. Manjunath hadalso  filed a similar PIL in 2017.

Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil informed that a meaningful celebration of Tipu Jayanti will be held on November 10 at the Netravati auditorium of zilla panchayat under auspices of district administration and Kannada and Cultural department.

Madikeri:

In the wake of Tipu Jayanthi the police have served notice to 155 people within Madikeri taluk limits.  The notice was served as per the direction of the state government  ensure that no violent act takes place on the day of Tipu Jayanti
