Mangaluru: A jewellery shop owner and the complainant in a Rs 15 lac robbery case that took place at Ladyhill here on October 23 have landed in trouble for allegedly concealing facts from the police.

It is gathered that though the actual sum stolen from the complainant, Manjunath Ganapathi Palankar was around Rs 2.35 crore he had, in his complaint lodged on October 26, claimed that unidentified men waylaid him and robbed him off Rs 15 lakhs in his possession.

The truth came to light with the arrest of two persons – Abdul Manan (29) of Talapady  KC Road and Razik (26) of Padil – and seizure of Rs 1.75 crore from them informed City Police Commissioner T R Suresh on Monday, November 5. Four others involved in the case are yet to be arrested, he informed.

Giving further information about the case the Police Commissioner said that Manjunath had been sent to Mumbai by his boss Santhosh M to collect cash from another jewellery store belonging to him there. Manjunath was looted of the amount upon his arrival here. The man, who introduced himself as a cop waylaid Manjunath after he alighted from the VRL bus and robbed him off the money and his mobile phones.

The Commissioner said that a probe will be done as to why the complainant had stated just Rs 15 lakh was looted when the actual amount was much higher. A complaint would also be filed with the IT Department to find if the cash was accounted or unaccounted, the Commissioner added.
