Mangaluru: The restriction on the movement of heavy vehicles – trucks, lorries and tankers – on the Shiradi Ghat stretch may be lifted from next week onwards, informed Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil.
Responding to a media query Senthil on Wednesday informed that a clearance for movement of heavy vehicles on Shiradi Ghat is awaited from the Hassan district administration as the traffic is still be regulated on two locations near Marnahalli on the stretch.
“From Dakshina Kannada district administration side, we have okayed the movement of heavy vehicles. The decision is likely to be taken after Deepavali. As the traffic on Shiradi Ghat stretch is heavy due to holiday on account of Deepavali, the allowing of 18-wheeler trucks may result in traffic congestion,” he said.
Following the massive landslides, triggered due to the rains in the region, the Shiradi Ghat stretch was closed for vehicular movement from August 14. Once the debris was cleared the stretch was reopened to light motor vehicles from September 5 and buses including multi-axle buses from October 3.
