Mangaluru: A variety of paintings will adorn the walls of Mangaluru Central Railway Station in a few days for passengers to admire Karavali’s culture and rituals. Already one painting has been completed on the wall of the station.

The students of Kendriya Vidyala Mangaluru have already painted a painting on the wall in front of the station’s reservation counter depicting the beauty of beaches in Karavali. The painting which gives life to the thought on Karavali’s beauty shows kids playing along the beach, boats, ships and ski jet. Thus the railway department has come forward to have paintings in a similar concept on the walls of the railway station and on the wall in front of the railway police station with the aim to highlight Karavali’s culture and rituals to the passengers.

There is opportunity for interested artists, groups and association to join hand with this initiative of the railway department. One can contact the Deputy Station Master of Mangaluru Central Railway station in this regard.

Emphasis to beautification

There was an intention to develop the railway station in the country in the field of tourism. The central railway board had decided to start a new scheme through which ‘beauty competition’ would be held along with beautifying the stations through the deft workmanship of artists. But, since the response was not on par with the expectation, the board decided to let go of the competition and instead only concentrate on beautification of the railway stations. Accordingly, the Southern Railways Phalghat Division has decided to beautify the stations coming within its jurisdiction.

Shiny railway station

Madhubani railway station in Bihar, which is one of the oldest railway station in India attracted the country’s attention through the Madhubani style paintings here. The artists beautified the railway station through paintings based on the plot of Ramayana.Similarly, the walls of Sawai Madhopur railway station, which is one of the smallest railways station in India have been beautified through innovative paintings by the students of the local school of arts. The paintings keep forth issues relating the environment along with attractive painting of animals like lion, tiger and trees and plants and thus have attracted the attention of the nation. The Jodhpur railway station has been beautified through paintings in Jodhpur style. Similarly, Mangaluru Central Railway Station too is expected to be changed in a likewise concept.

Painting on wall: Permission required

Artists, organizers and volunteers of the particular division can take up the responsibility of beautifying the walls of the railway station. For this, permission is required from the railway station chief and also details on the type of painting and its map have to be submitted. After receiving the documents, the officials hand over the same to the related railway division. Only after permission is received from there will the related artists/ volunteer organization will begin the painting on the pre-designated location along the wall of the railway station, informed sources from the railway department.
