‘Superstitious’ HDK to skip Tipu Jayanthi celebration fearing jinx?

Bengaluru: Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy is most likely to skip the Tipu Jayanthi fete, reportedly fearing the jinx associated with the Mysuru king, to be held at the Vidhana Soudha Banquet hall on November 10. Notably, the invitation cards printed for the event does not bear the name of the chief minister.
It is a known fact that the HD Deve Gowda family is very superstitious and it is gathered from sources that the family believes showing reverence towards Tipu Sultan can bring them bad omen. Instances such as actor Sanjay Khan meeting with a deadly accident while shooting for the teleserial,’The Sword of Tipu Sultan’, the turmoil being faced by Vijay Mallya after he bought Tipu’s sword at an international auction as also Congress leader Siddaramaiah who had to sacrifice his chief ministerial post after celebrating Tipu Jayanti have only fueled the suspicions.
This apart the JD(S) had distanced itself from the Tipu Jayanthi celebration when it was opposing the Congress and even Kumaraswamy had assured people of stopping the celebration if elected to power. However, since the party cannot oppose the celebration, as it is now an ally of the Congress JD(S) leaders are seemingly distancing themselves from the same.
