Mangaluru: Acting on the directions given by Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has decided to increase the water storage level in Thumbe dam to six metres from the existing five metres since today (Sunday).
The decision to raise the water storage level has been taken to avoid any problem of water scarcity in the summer season. The new dam at Thumbe in Bantwal taluk, which was commissioned in December 2016 has a maximum storage level of 11 meters.
Meanwhile, the corporation, in a release, warned people residing on the banks of the river to exercise precautions as the shutters get raised to six metres.
The MCC has been paying rent for the land submerged, since the commissioning of the new dam, informed an MCC official.
