Surathkal: Though contractors had been called for the road widening and asphalting of the Bala Kana road at the cost of Rs 58 crore, the negotiations between the government and the contractor had broken down. Since then, the prosibility of any repair work to the road in the near future seems to be very doubtful and this has caused much displeasure amongst the public.
Daily, heavy lorries transit here leading to the creation of big potholes on the road. Not designed to bear the load the localites have to bear the brunt, as the road is unsafe and unfit for them to bring out their light vehicles. The government has failed to pay heed to the words of the MLA and therefore BJP has come forward with a protest.
Government’s negligence
“Since only a single person had applied for the tender for this part of the road, the understanding between the contractor and the government has broken down. Now the Rs 58 crore plan should be availed for this region. The government instead of re-issuing the tender has decided to remain ignorant. The government is not listening to the MLA. It is not showing any signs to release the grant. Therefore the protest is inevitable,” said Dr Y Bharat Shetty, MLA.
