Subrahmanya: Amidst the terror of the rise in the plague of fake notes in the state, there is a suspicion that this network is functioning well at Kukke Subrahmanya religious centre too. A few days back an unknown person gave Rs 200 note to a poor trader for the purchase of some small goods. The trading woman however failed to check the authenticity of the given note then and there itself.
But, after the person left the place,, the woman felt suspicious of the note and checked the note only to find it to be a fake note. In this way, in a few days several traders have been cheated in Subrahmanya.
Outwardly resembles an original note
Outwardly, the fake note resembles an authentic note. It could not be definitely ascertained if it was a fake note or a Xerox copy. This not incorporates 90% of the security features of an original note. But the fake note which the poor trader women was duped with does not have the water mark, micro lettering and the security strip. However, the note does have Gandhi’s photo, code number, emblem, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Swacch Bharath logo and resembles an original note well.
Normally, Subrahmanya is crowded daily. Therefore there is suspicion that perpetrators are making use of this confusion to distribute the fake notes. They target roadside, petty retail shops run by women or kids as their modus operandi. In the rush of the people, the trader who fails to check the authenticity of the given note is cheated.
Several years ago, a network was functioning in Kukke Subrahmanya and distributing fake notes procured from outside. However, when a local grocer was cheated so, he informed the police immediately. Through a careful operation by the police, the fake note trafficker was nabbed. During the investigation of the case, more than twenty witnesses were presented before the Court. The accused were also punished.
No information received regarding the cheating
“There has been complaint regarding fake notes. If the cheated persons, traders give complaint, it will become convenient for the investigation. If they are apprehensive to give a complaint, it will have an adverse effect on the investigation. We are currently collecting information in connection to the fake note cheating case that has taken place now,” said Madhava Kudlu, Sub Inspector, Subrahmanya Police Station.
