Bengaluru: Following students protests against a ban on the use of laptops in college campuses, the state Pre-University (PU) Board retracted its earlier order but maintained that the ban on the use of smartphones will continue.
In a circular, issued on November 22, the PU board had banned PU students from using mobiles and laptops during in campuses during college hours. The circular was applicable to government and aided colleges across the state.
The circular read that the move was in the educational interest of the students and colleges were expected to adhere to the orders strictly. However, the ban on laptops was not appreciated by PU students who termed the decision as a senseless one.
In the wake of the students’ criticism and protests, the PU board withdrew its order later the same day but retained the ban on the use of mobiles.
