Dharwad: Even as several villages in Karnataka are facing a drought situation, villagers of Morab village in Dharwad drained out water from the village lake for a rather shocking reason.
Ironically the lake happens to be the only source of drinking water for the people.
The villagers feared infection after the dead body of an HIV infected woman, partially eaten by fish was found floating in the lake.
On November 29 the villagers after noticing her dead body decided to drain out the lake water as they feared getting infected with HIV. Over last fours days, the villagers drained more than half the water from the lake despite efforts from the panchayat members and staffers to convince them against their actions.
Notably, villagers were indifferent to a drowning incident of a boy in the same lake last year.
Meanwhile, a physician in the village said that the water could have been used after chlorination treatment.
