Mangaluru: Kottara Chowki flyover, which connects Mangaluru-Udupi along NH 66 is soon going to get beautified and become tourist destination.
Kottara Chowki flyover will undergo beautification with the assistance from donors under the leadership of Sri Ramakrishna Math which has been successfully conducting cleanliness programmes throughout the city. Currently, the permission from NHAI to achieve this is in process.
Currently, vehicles and push carts are parked haphazardly beneath the flyover. Hence, there has been no maintenance done beneath the flyover which is now in a state of disorder. In order to stop this and in the backdrop of travelers passing beneath the Kottara Chowki flyover, Ramkrishna Mission has decided to give it a new look. The Mission which has already conducted several such beautification works throughout the city has now decided to beautified the lower part of Kottara Chowki flyover.
Garden
Interlocks will be installed within 500-600 meters limit beneath the flyover here. Importance will be given to create a decorative garden with placing of plants at pre-decided spots. Mind attracting benches will be installed for tourists to seat here. Henceforth there will be no opportunity for haphazardly parking of vehicles here.
Instead, opportunity will be given for parking of bikes beneath one slab and auto rickshaw park on the other. All the walls beneath the flyover will be painted with pictures depicting the country’s culture. This will be in such a way as to appear clearly to the passengers of vehicles passing by. A proposal has been created to do all these works at the cost of Rs 60 lakh.
Surathkal/Kuloor flyover beautiful!
Last year, the area beneath the Surathkal overbridge was cleaned with assistance from various social organizations.
The 6 slabs here have been beautified. Proper facility has been provided here for the parking of tempo, rickshaw and two wheelers here. The pictures of Karavali’s renowned sportsperson like K L Rahul and Poovamma have been painted here. In the same way, 2 years back, the localities had come together to clean up the lower part of the overbridge at Kuloor. The walls were painted with pictures depicting Karavali’s culture and there are also writings spreading awareness on cleanliness. This has been successful in winning over the minds of travellers.
To begin in January
