Attack on businessman case: Two arrested, bike and Rs 16.57 lakh seized

Bejai: Police from central sub-division rowdy control force arrested two persons and confiscated goods worth Rs 17,17,000 including Rs 16,57,000 in cash and a motor bike in connection to the case in which a businessman, who was going to his house via Bejai Sri Rama Bhajana Mandir in the city, was assaulted and his bag which contained Rs 27 lakh was robbed from him on October 20th.
The arrested have been identified as Mohammed Shafi (26), resident Ilanthila Nejikar in the taluk of Beltangady and Mohammed Riaz (19), a resident of Ilanthila Ambottu.
A case in connection to the assault and robbery of Rs 27 lakh in cash at 7:30 pm on Oct 20 was registered with Urwa police station.
When the accused were robbing the cash from Mr Kamath, they had threatened him with dire consequences. Hence the victim terrified by the life threat given by the accused said that he had lost his bag in an accident. However, the police got clue of the real incident and revealed that it was actually a robbery.
The operation to nab the accused was conducted under the guidance of police commissioner T R Suresh, DCPs Hanumantaraya and Uma Prashant and ACP Bhaskar Vokkaliga and the police team was led by inspector Ravish Nayak, Central anti-rowdy squad.
four cases of theft against Mohammed Shafi, the planner of this robbery at Beltangady police station limits, a case of rape under Puttur city police station limits and has cases registered in Pandeshwar, Urwa, Kadri and Kavoor police stations of the city. He used to sell Churumuri snack long back during the festive occasions and later took to dacoity, theft and robbery.
Shafi’s accomplice Mohammed Riaz used to work in timber depot earlier and was involved in helping Shaft in petty thefts.
