Haveri: A few women joined together, dragged out a police inspector, who is said to have behaved indecently with one of the women and thrashed him. The incident took place at the taluk panchayat premises at Byadagi in the district on Sunday December 16th. P Chidanand is the police man who was on the receiving end of the women’s wrath.

The cause

Seethamma from Nellikoppa village had visited Byadagi police station two weeks back, to complain against her brother, Nagaraj, who used to beat up his parents and sisters for no reason. Inspector Chidanand reportedly asked the woman to remove her clothes in the guise of checking her injuries. “He said that I am beautiful and invited me to live with him, duly offering me money,” says Seethama.

Consequently, over a hundred women including the affected lady joined together at the taluk panchayat premises and held protest. When they were ready to meet the district superintendent of police and complain against him, inspector Chidanand came to them and tried to pacify the crowd. This built up into a verbal altercation and Chidanand, who was seated in the jeep, was dragged out by the women, his uniform was torn apart, and he was badly beaten up.
