Mangaluru: Following the Thota Bengre gangrape incident, demands for additional police patrolling and other security measures in Tannirbavi and Thota Bengre areas were raised during the SC/ST grievance redressal meeting, held at Police Commissioner’s office on December 16, Sunday attended by DCP Uma Prashanth, SP Vedamurthy and leaders of SC/ST communities.

In the meeting, Sadhashiva, one of the leader said the recent incident of the gang rape of a woman belonging to the SC/ST community in broad daylight reflected the lack of security in the area. Further, he alleged that since the patrolling was not being done effectively by the Panambur police the area has been seeing increasing crimes and has turned into a sanctum for drug addicts.

Speaking at the meeting DCP Uma Prashanth said, “Patrolling had been increased in the areas and necessary measures by monitoring the situation on a timely basis.

Meanwhile, leaders of SC/ST communities requested the police to complete investigations in the gang rape incident soon and ensure that the victim gets justice.

Umesh from Kaikamba told that Bajpe police station is not admitting the cases of atrocity of people belonging to the SC/ST community.

Citing the rising menace of drug addicts in Ullal region, another leader Girish Kumar urged to conduct the grievance meeting at Ullal police station.

Regarding the alleged irregularities in Ganga Kalyana scheme, SP C.B Vedamurthy said that a probe is in progress and victims can submit their complaint.”
