Bengaluru: A 28-year-old software engineer, who had gone to bid his home-bound parents goodbye, was killed after he fell off the moving train and came under it at Carmelaram railway station, East Bengaluru on Monday night, Dec 17th. The deceased youth’s father also sustained grievous injuries after he too jumped out of the moving train after noticing his son falling beneath the train.

The techie identified as Vikram Vijayan, a resident of Sector 3, HSR Layout and employed with Wipro, died instantly. His father, Vijayan Chakkingal, 65, a retired technician and resident of Kanjikode, Palakkad district, Kerala, has been admitted to a private hospital near Marathahalli

Prima facie investigation revealed that the techie’s parents Vijayam and Kumari had been staying with their son for a few days and were to return to Palakkad in the Yeshwantpur-Kannur Express train on Monday night. Vikram brought them to Carmelaram station where the train arrived at platform no. 1 at 8.56pm and stopped for a minute.

The techie entered the AC compartment where his parent’s seats had been reserved and as he was helping them with their luggage, he noticed the train had started to move. Hence, he wished his parents a safe journey in a hurry and hurried to get off the moving train.

The tragedy

In his haste to get off the moving train, Vikram jumped out of the train but in a direction opposite to the train’s motion. Consequently, he lost his balance and fell between the moving train and the platform. He instantly came beneath the wheels of the train and breathed his last. His legs , hands and head were severed from his body. Seeing his son fall, Vijayan too jumped out of the moving train and suffered grievous injuries, inform the police.

Witnessing the turn of events, fellow passengers pulled the chain to stop the train, post which Udaya Kumari alighted from the train and realized the tragedy.

The severely injured Vijayan was rushed to a nearby hospital in Marathahalli and is said to be out do danger, inform the police.

The mortal remains of the deceased Vikram were shifted to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital for post mortem by the Byappanahalli railway police on Tuesday morning.

Based on a complaint by stationmaster of Carmelaram railway station Chandan Kumar, a case of unnatural death has been registered.
