Karkala: A very good response has been garnered by the Toll Opposition Committee’s call for Bandh against the installation of a tollgate at Belman for Karkala – Padubidri state highway today Dec 20th.
Giving wholehearted support to the Bandh, buses have stayed off road, shops, establishments, banks, educational institutions and others have voluntarily downed their shutters.
Earlier, the committee had requested the people, institution, business for their support to the bandh and asked to down their shutters on the day of the bandh. The committee points out that most of the people using this road are poor and toll charges would be a burden for them and therefore it is completely against the construction of the toll plaza at Belman.
Over 10,000 people participation expected
On Wednesday, preliminary meetings were held in connection to the bandh. President of Toll Opposition Committee Suhas Hegde Nandalike said that the committee expects all the shops and establishments on the said state highway to remain closed on Thursday. All the vehicles including buses, trucks, cars and auto rickshaws would remain off the road as well. Over 10,000 people are likely to participate in the protest meeting, he said.
