Mangaluru: Union minister for Railways Piyush Goyal said that he would soon convene a meeting of high-level officials in New Delhi to discuss the demand for a separate railway division in Mangaluru.
The assurance came in the backdrop of Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateels’s visit to the national capital to meet the Railways Minister.
Apart from the demand of a separate rail division, Kateel placed various other demands of the people of the district before the Railways minister. The demands include construction of a full-fledged building, provision of basic amenities and speedy execution of the work on the third and fourth platforms at the Mangaluru Central Railway Station; doubling of Subrahmanya-Sakleshpura railway line on a priority basis and reintroduction of Mahalakshmi Express (Mangaluru-Hassan-Arasikere-Hubballi-Miraj).
The MP urged the Union minister that Dadar-Madgaon Janshatabdi Express be extended to Mangaluru and to run Mangaluru-Madgaon DEMU train on a daily basis. He also appealed Goyal to fulfil the demand for providing facilities at Subrahmanya Road railway station.
Meanwhile, Goyal has assured to look into all the demands it is gathered.
