Birthday outing turns tragic as three students drown in Nethravathi River

Puttur: A birthday celebration turned into a tragedy as three students of Uppinangady Junior College drowned in Nethravathi River here on December 31 night.
Mohammed Suhaid, Firzan and Sahir are the deceased students.
The students had gone to the riverbanks for a birthday celebration. One of the students went into the river to wash his hands after cutting the cake when he accidentally drowned in the water. Seeing their friend in danger, the other two rushed to his rescue but they too got drowned in the water.
Meanwhile, efforts are on to locate their bodies.
