Mangaluru: A Padayatra has been organised by the DK District Congress from Nelyady to BC Road from January 14 to 16 demanding steps to resume the works on the Addahole-BC Road stretch on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru National Highway at the earliest, said B Ramanatha Rai, senior Congress leader and former minister speaking to reporters at the Party Office here on Thursday Jan 3rd.
The Padayatra will begin on Jan 14 and proceed from Nelyady to Uppinangady. Next day it will proceed till Maani and on the third day up to BC Road. The theme of the Padyatra is ’Heddari Poornagolisi, Janara Praana Ulisi’ (Complete Highway Works, Save Lives). Public meetings will be held on all the three days, he explained.
L&T which was awarded the contract for the second phase of the work has suspended works following the failure of the NHAI to release funds. NHAI owes crores of rupees to the contract company, informed Rai.
Sabarimala row
Responding to a question regarding the Sabarimala row, Rai refused to comment but said he had visited Sabarimala as an Ayyappa Vrithadhari over 18 times. He said he will not resort to politics on this issue.
