Father guilty of murdering two children by poisoning them: Court

Kundapur: Shankarnarayana Hebbar (48) from Byndoor Ganganadu, accused of murdering two children by poisoning them has been proved guilty by the district and sessions court here. Apparently, the act was the result of a love affair the father of the deceased children had.

Mr Hebbar was attracted to another woman and consequently, had fed poison to his two children and wife, before attempting suicide on October 16, 2016. In his attempt of murder and suicide, two of his children identified as Ahswin Kumar Hebbar (15) and Aishwarya Laxmi Hebbar (13), both students of government pre-university college at Byndoor, lost their lives. However, Shankaranarayana Hebbar and his wife, Mahalaxmi survived.

The suicide note

Before committing his act of murder and suicide, Hebbar had written a death note in which he state that he had fed poison to his wife and children before consuming it himself. The same note clenched his fate in the Court.

He was cheated

Six months before the act, Hebbar had had deserted his family and begun to live with his love interest. Two days before the act took place, he had returned back home after his love interest cheated him. Hence he planned a revenge on his ex-lover by committing murder and suicide. In his death note he claimed that he had poisoned his wife and children his wife and children had decided to kill themselves and that his lover is the reason for these deaths. As a last wish, he mentioned that their mortal remains should not be removed till his lover arrives there and sees them.

Court proceedings

The Court examined 17 of the 43 witness listed in the chagesheet which was filed with the Court by the then Byndoor police circle inspector, Raghava Padil. The accused and his wife were eyewitnesses for the incident. The prosecution was represented by district assistant public prosecutor Prakashchandra Shetty.

The final hearing of the case took place in the district and sessions court here on Thursday, January 3. The judge Prakash Khanderi,has reserved order on sentencing of the guilty, to January 7.

Death sentence

The prosecution has demanded death sentence to the guilty, informed the assistant public prosecutor Prakashchandra Shetty and added that though the chance of awarding death sentence cannot be ruled out completely, a life term is almost sure in the case.
