Kasaragod Sabarimala row: Cases booked against 677 persons, 33 arrested

Kasaragod: The police have registered cases against 677 persons and arrested 33 in connection to the hartal conducted on Thursday and Friday regarding the historic entry of two women into Sabarimala.

Manjeshwar police have registered a case against 12 persons in connection to the assault on Abdul Kareem, a Madrasa teacher at Bayaru Muligadde. Kumble police, who have arrested 4 persons in connection to the assault in Bandyodi have also registered case against 100 persons.

16 persons have been arrested in connection to untoward incidents that occurred in Kasaragod city and its surroundings and also cases have been booked against BJP district president K Srikanth, P Ramesh, Sujith, Uma, Rohit and 280 others for stopping vehicles and taking out procession in Karndakkad.

Case has been booked against 10 persons for causing damage to a house and two have been arrested in the case of causing damage to an auto rickshaw. Case has been booked against 20 persons for blocking the road at Poyinachi. A suspected youth has been nabbed. Five have been arrested for taking out a procession without permission in Madhuri.

Manjeshwar: Section 144

The DC invoked section 144 in Manjeshwar taluk on Friday. There was heavy police deployment under the leadership of SP Dr A Shrinivas and ASP Shilpa. Special security and patrolling was done at areas considered sensitive. Devotees’ vehicles have been provided with security. Due to the violence by miscreants, Ayyappa devotees and more than 15 others have suffered injuries and are recuperating at various private hospitals.
