BJP MLA attempts suicide over harassment of his followers

Chitradurga: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Gulihatti Shekhar from Hosadurga attempted suicide by dousing himself with petrol on Sunday, January 6 on the pretext of alleged harassment of his supporters by police.

The police were registering cases against innocent persons in connection with illegal sand mining alleged Shekhar. He along with his supports had staged a protest with this regard in front of the Hosadurga police station. During the protest, Shekhar attempted to set himself on fire by pouring petrol over himself. 

However, the MLA’s supporters and the police intervened and foiled the attempt, following the incident, he was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment and is currently known to be out of danger, informed sources.
