Mangaluru: Why are the BJP MLA’s, MP maintaining silence regarding the saving of Vijata Bank? asked former MLA J R Lobo speaking at the protest organised in front of the Vijaya Bank’s founder’s branch near Jyothi talkies on Thursday Jan 10th.
The NDA governemnt’s decision to merge Vijaya Bank is an insult to the bank as well as the district. The MP has not even attempted to prevent this. If they do not stop the merger, even more fights will be undertaken, he warned.
Speaking on the occasion former minister B Ramanath Rai said, earlier during the period of Indira Gandhi when banks were nationalized, the names of the banks were retained. MLC Harish Kumar demanded that the merger must be stopped immediately. Vijaya Bank retired employee Vimala Rai spoke and said that the debt of Mulki Sundar ram Shetty’s debt cannot be paid back in this lifetime.

Where is the BJP which opposed in the road issue?
Speaking at the protest, former MLA J R Lobo said, A year back, BJP leaders played politics in the issue of naming the road as Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty. They called Congress anti-Bunts. Vijaya Bank is the dream child of A B Shetty and Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty. But MP Nalin Kumar who belongs to their community itself, has failed to make any attempt to stop this action by the central government, he said.
BJP which won the elections by using the name of Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty is now aiming to destroy the very bank’s existence, pointed out MLC Ivan D’Souza.
Black ribbon protest
The gathered protestors protested by tying black ribbons. They also raised slogans against the central government and expressed their anger.
