Mangaluru: “Houses will be provided free of cost to the differentially abled after the government creates a list on differentially abled persons from the district administration. Hence the differentially abled persons need not go to panchayats under the housing scheme,” informed the Cabinet minister for Housing  and Urban Development and Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister U T Khader on Wednesday Jan 16th.

Mr Khader was addressing the gathered after inaugurating a massive health camp for differently abled persons and senior citizens at Balepuni Government school premises.

“If we want a healthy society, members residing in every house should be healthy. People need to be compassionate towards the poor and the differentially abled. Everyone should extend their helping hands towards the differentially abled,” he urged.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty, Pro Chancellor, Nitte University, pointed out that the differently abled are not demanding compassion. All they need is an opportunity to lead a happy life on their own and therefore, an opportunity needs to be given to them to achieve this.

A total of 25 beneficiaries were provided with wheelchairs, 35 with water-bed, 10 with walker and bedpan on the occasion.
