Death sentence awarded to man who poisoned and killed his 2 children

Kundapur: A 48 year old man named Shankernarayana Hebbar of Byndoor who had poisoned his wife and children and then attempted suicide has been awarded the death sentence by the Additional District and Sessions Court of Kundapur.
The two children died after consuming the poison but the wife and the main accused survived.
The incident
Hebbar had poisoned his wife Mahalakshmi and children Ashwin Kumar Hebbar (15) and Aishwarya Lakshmi Hebbar (13) and then attempted suicide on October 16, 2016. However, the two children lost their lives, both Shankeranarayana and his wife survived.
Reportedly, Shankeranarayana had deserted his wife and kids and was staying with his lover. However, after some time, his lover deserted him, post which he returned back to his family and murdered his own children but failed in his attempt to commit suicide or murder his wife
During his failed suicide attempt, he had left behind a death note stating that the drastic step of his family was due to the failure of his love affair. He had insisted that their mortal remains be laid to rest only after his ex-lover had visited the spot and witnessed his act.
On January 3rd, the Court had found the accused Shankeranarayana as guilty and had postponed the quantum of punishment to Jan 19th.
