Dr. M. N. Rajendra Kumar silver jubilee celebrations

Mangaluru: The Rajatha Sambhrama or the silver jubilee celebrations of Dr. M. N. Rajendra Kumar as Chairman of SCDCC Bank (South Canara District Central Co-Operative Bank ) and the convention of the Navodaya self-help group began with a colourful and attractive procession in front of the Bank’s Headquarters at Kodialbail on Saturday Jan 19th.
The procession began at round 10 am in the morning had over 60 artist teams and silhouettes. The art and culture of various districts in the state attracted the viewers mind. The ‘Koraga Dance’, ‘Koli Kunita’, ‘Kattappana Gooli’ were the major attractions. Davanagere’s Mahadi Shivakumar, who was wearing a red costume and carrying a placard spreading the awareness on blood donation attracted everyone’s attention. The primary attraction of the procession were the costumes of Shiva, Parvati, Ishwara and Subhramanya and the costumes were a very realistic representation of them.
Kambla in silhouettes
The silhouettes in the procession gave emphasis to the traditional and folk sports of the district. The representation of Tulu Nadu through Koti-Chenayya Kambla and fishing on the silhouettes attracted the crowds. The chief attraction of the silhouettes procession was the cutout of SCDCC bank’s president Dr M R Rajendra Kumar whose 25th year jubilee was being celebrated.
Women take part with enthusiasm
The members of the Navodaya group took part enthusiastically in the entire length of the procession. The members had arrived at 9 am in the morning and participated in the procession wearing the group’s uniform. They progressed enthusiastically along in the procession from the premises of SCDCC bank to Nehru Maidan where the programme was held.
Spectators stood on top of buildings
The procession started from the bank at Kodialbail and reached Nehru Maidan via K S Rao Road and Hampankatta. People stood in groups to view the various presentations of the different art teams from all over the state. Besides this, people also stood on top of the buildings along the route of the procession to view the variety procession.
Photos and videos
The people did not forget to capture video and photos of the grand procession. People on top of the buildings as well as those standing on the roadsides were busy clicking photos and videos. A few even took selfies with the artists and celebrated.
Buttermilk distributed
Buttermilk was provided to quench the thirst of all the people who had attended the programme. The buttermilk packets were kept systematically at the entrance. There was no limit to how many packets a person drank to quench ones thirst. Besides, the volunteers were indulging in distributing the buttermilk packets to all those who had arrived for the programme. The volunteers also provided the packets to those who were seated.
The massive flow of humans
The chairs installed near the stage and the upper grounds were almost filled by 11:30 am. Besides, people were arriving till 1 pm in the afternoon as well. Facility of around 3,000 buses and 1,000 tempos was provided from morning 9 am to 10:30 am for the people. Proper parking facility was provided for all the vehicles.
Vehicular movement along the LHS of the road from the bank till the maidan was closed by the police to make way for the procession to pass through. However vehicles were allowed to pass through on the other side of the road.
Excellent business
Charmuri vendors within the Nehru Maidan did excellent business on this occasion as there was a huge demand for charmuri, raw mango and other snacks. There was also good business for vendors outside the maidan who were selling ice candy’s and water bottles.
