6 dead, others missing after boat capsizes in Karwar

Karwar: 6 bodies have been recovered by the Navy and Coast Guard personnel after a ferry boat Capsized with 26 persons near Karwar earlier today (Monday).

The Navy and Coast Guard personnel are locating others by air and surface assets. Dornier aircraft also being launched from Goa as bodies drifted seawards, informed sources.

26 people had gone to a temple located at a remote island in Karwar district as they were returning their boat capsized and the accident took place. 

Rupali Nayak, a lawmaker from the district, was on the other boat. She is an eye-witness to the accident. She said she and her team immediately rushed to help the people and pulled two out of the water. 

Later, the Navy was called for the rescue operation, which is underway.
