Byndoor: Since the last two years, the people have been traumatized by the problem regarding sand availability in Udupi district. The people of the district who have been waiting since the last 6 months hoping that permission will be provided for the transport of sand may have to remain waiting as though the season is drawing to an end there are no signs depicting the start of sand mining. However, a few people have capitalized on this situation by illegally extracting sand from Byndoor, Shiroor and transporting it to other districts.
The illegal sand transport is occurring with all its might and finally the concerned departments have finally woken up and the police and revenue officials have started taking action thereby bringing a temporary stop to the illegal business since the last three days.
Creation of a special team
A special team has been created under the guidance of the district police superintendent to put a break to this illegal business. Information is being collected regarding the illegal transport of sand which is filled in small tippers from Mangaluru and being transported through Byndoor area. Even stricter drives will be conducted at all the police gates. Information regarding every vehicle is being taken at the check post at Udupi district borders. Police teams have visited suspicious places. Information relating sand filled lorries is immediately passed to the police from the toll gates. Through this action, it may be said that the business of filling big lorries with sand from Mangaluru and transporting it to Uttara Kannada district as taken a hit. Also the public can provide information to the police department regarding vehicles indulging in the illegal transport of sand.
