Minor sexually harassed: Elderly sentenced to 10 yrs RI

Kasaragod: An elderly man has been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 50,000 by Kasaragod Additional District Sessions Court (Primary) for sexually harassing a minor.

The sentenced convict is identified as Joseph V S alias Tangacchan Skariya (72), a resident of Irinjjilekodi Vadakke Parambatt House at Panattady village. He was accused in a case of sexually harassing a five-year-old girl child.

The Court ordered that the fine be given to the victim child and also advised that the victim is eligible for compensation for damages under victim relief scheme. If the convict fails to pay the fine, he will have to face an additional 2 years of RI. Rajapuram police registered the case stating that the accused had committed the same offense earlier on June 7th 2014 and anther time later.
