Birthday cake cutting lands BJP leader behind bars

Belagavi: Cutting off his birthday cake landed a BJP leader behind the bar. The reason- being the leader chose to cut the cake with a sword rather than a knife.

The incident took place during the birthday party thrown by the leader, Nikhil Murkute, Belagavi BJP district youth wing president at a city hotel on Friday, February 1. The video footage of Nikhil cutting the cake with the sword was uploaded by his friends on social media platform and same went viral shortly.

Following outrage that the incident evoked, Malamaruti police arrested Nikhil from his house on Monday, Feb 4 night and confiscated the sword.  

Meanwhile local MLA Anil Benake, former MLA Sanjay Patil were seen at the party denied knowledge of the incident and said that it may have taken place they arrived.
