Mangaluru: Former Bajrang Dal convener Mahendra Kumar has been acquitted by the 2nd Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Judge Mahesh B.T in connection to the case that relates to a press meet that accused held in support of attacks on churches in 2008.

Following the meet, a suo moto case had been registered against the accused by the then Inspector of Mangaluru North, Venkatesh Prasanna under Section 153 (A) (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, language, etc) of the IPC following the meet Mangaluru.

Speaking in connection to the case Mr Kumar said that the case in Mangaluru was one among the 17 cases foisted against him across the state. The cases have been foisted at the instance of BJP activists and Sangh Parivar followers as a reaction to non-cooperation in the escalation of the Datta Peeta issue, he alleges.
