Stop street vendor menace in front of Central Market

Mangaluru: Since there is increasing menace of street vendors in front of Central Market, it is impossible for the customers to enter into the market. They should be vacated immediately demanded the merchants from the market.

The grievance was put forth by a caller during the police phone-in programme that was held at the office of the police commissioner on Friday, February 15.

“The street vendors are now doing business by spreading the vegetables and fruits on the ground in huge heaps in addition to the hawkers, who sell various items on movable trolleys. It is impossible for the people to walk around the place and enter the market. It is causing chaos in traffic movement also. Inside the market, the shop owners do not have business. We are in a situation, where we are forced to commit suicide,” said the caller.

Responding to the caller DCP Uma Prashanth said “We have conducted several operations against the street vendors. We will bring the same to the notice of the MCC once again.”

Another caller complained of cables strewn on footpath near Bunts Hostel, PVS Junction and Balmatta which were causing a grave danger for the pedestrian’s who can get entangled by the cables and fall. The DCP replied that the concerned authority will be notified.

Haphazard parking

A caller from Kinnigoli complained of vehicles parked on the footpath here and also goods being placed on the footpath at some places. This was causing problem for pedestrians. DCP replied that action will be taken in this connection.

Mangaluru instead of State Bank

Buses plying from Sullia and Dharmasthala to the city are displaying the board as ‘State Bank’, which is causing confusion the passengers, complained a caller and suggested that ‘Mangaluru’ should be mentioned instead. The DCP replied that KSRTC officials will be notified of the same.

  • Removal of the hazardous board near Padil
  • Vehicle over speeding along Nandigudda road. Hump[s need to be installed.
  • Provide drinking water to policemen doing their duty on the roads.
  • Mud has been dumped at a private property in Balmatta which is causing problem.
  • Road Romeos are causing nuisance at Ashoknagar.
  • Street vendors causing problem to pedestrians by doing business on the footpath from Krishnapura to Ganeshpura.
  • City bus route number 30 does not ply between 11 am to 3 pm
  • Vehicles are over speeding along the road from Town Hall to Mangaluru central railway station
  • Since the footpath at Surathkal is not level, it is causing problem to pedestrians

One minute silence observed

In honour of the soldiers who martyred in the Pulwama terror attack, one minute silence was observed at the end of the programme. 29 calls were received during the 106th Police phone-in programme.
