Lalbhag: The newly renovated Mangala swimming pool near Managal stadium was inaugurated by the district in-charge minister U T Khader on Saturday February 16th.

Addressing the gathered the Mr Khader said, “Though there is a plan to set up an international level swimming pool in Mangaluru city, there is a lack of proper land in the city. However, the government is on the lookout for a land for the project,” he said.

The minister informed that post identifying the land; an international level swimming pool would be built in Mangaluru. “There is also a plan to organise international level swimming competition here,” he added.

Chief Minister’s Parlimentary Secretary and MLC Ivan D’Souza informed that the swimming pool was renovated at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore. “It is the first-ever swimming pool with an advance water purification plant in the entire state,” he added.

Mangala swimming pool was built 32 years ago and the renovation was planned since the water purification system at the pool was close to 28 years old. The cost for the entire pool’s upgrading was Rs 1.5 crore. A new fully automated water purification system has been introduced here along with a ozone unit to treat the 25 lakh liters of water in the swimming pool. The new systems here also include 4 water pumps and 4 drum purification. The purified water pumped into the swimming pool is resistant to spread of water borne diseases and hence averts any spread of contagious diseases.
