New train to B’luru to start from today

Mangaluru: The new tri-weekly Yeshwanthpur-Mangaluru express train (train no 16585/86) between Mangaluru and Bengaluru will be flagged of today at 11 am from Mangaluru Central railway station. The train will begin its service from February 22nd.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel will flag off the train with a green flag and the district in-charge minister U T Khader will preside the event. Several guests are expected to participate in the even including MLA Vedavyas Kamath, Dr Bharat Shetty, Mayor Bhaskar K, ZP president Meenakshi Shanigodu and others.
2 hours delay for return journey
As per the proposed timings, it will take 11:30 hrs for the journey from Bengaluru to Mangaluru and 9:30 hrs from Mangaluru to Bengaluru to cover the distance of 364 kms. The train arriving from Bengaluru to Mangaluru will be delayed by up to 2 hrs because of the safety measures to be followed while crossing the Ghats and due to railway crossing en-route. The train will be leaving at around 4 pm in the evening and there are demands to change the train time-table which is not convenient for Karavali.
Presently, Yeshwanthpur express train leaves daily from Mangaluru Central railway station to Bengaluru at 8:55 pm in the night and reaches its destination at 7:30 am. It travels via Mysuru for 3 days and via Shravanabelagola for 4 days in a week. On the other hand, Gomateshwara express train from Mangaluru Junction leaves daily to Bengaluru (except on Sunday) at 11:30 am in the morning and reaches its destination at 8:30 pm in the night. This train travels via Shravanabelagola.
