Mandya: Sumalatha Ambareesh, wife of late parliamentarian and minister Ambareesh met former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at his residence on Wednesday to convey her readiness to contest from Mandya Lok Sabha constituency.
Her decision comes in the backdrop of the immense pressure from Ambareesh’s supporters urging her to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Mandya.
It is gathered that Siddaramaiah told her that he would consider her candidature only after some clarity on the seat-sharing emerges between the coalition partners.
Responding to a question if she would contest as an Independent candidate if the party decides to give the Mandya seat to JD(S) in the seat-sharing arrangement, Sumalatha said, “Ambareesh was part of the Congress and hence, the opinion of senior leaders of the party is very important. I leave it to the people to decide if I should contest as an Independent candidate or not. I won’t be able to comment on that now.”
